Superbikes turn Laguna Seca into a different animal. When MotoAmerica brings its Superbike Speedfest to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in July, the Corkscrew stops being a spectator postcard and becomes the place where riders drag a knee over a blind crest at speed.
MotoAmerica is the top level of road racing in the country, and the Speedfest weekend stacks Superbike, Supersport, and the support classes into three days of practice, qualifying, and races. The bikes run close, the racing is aggressive, and the sound is a different register than the car weekends, higher, sharper, and constant. For fans who care about two wheels, this is the marquee stop on the calendar.
General admission gets you the paddock and the famous corners, and the hillside seating around the Corkscrew and Turn 6 puts you close to the action for the price of a walk up the slope. Bring ear protection, sun cover, and shoes for the hills.
The riders are approachable in the paddock between sessions, and for anyone who rides, a weekend here is equal parts spectating and taking notes on lines through the corners.
