WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is the Peninsula’s motorsport crown jewel, a 2.2-mile road course carved into the hills above Salinas, famous the world over for one corner: the Corkscrew, a blind, plunging left-right that drops several stories in a few hundred feet.
The track runs a full season, from historic racing and IndyCar to superbikes, sports cars, and enthusiast festivals, plus track days and the massive Sea Otter cycling festival in spring. General admission usually gets you the paddock, where there are no ropes between you and the machinery, which is the real reason to go.
The site sprawls over steep terrain, so wear real shoes, bring sun cover and ear protection, and be ready to hike to the good viewing spots at the Corkscrew and Turn 6. Camping on site is part of the tradition for the big weekends.
The track sits about twenty minutes from downtown Monterey off the Salinas highway, and the surrounding recreation area adds trails and camping that make a race weekend a full outdoor trip.
