Not all of Car Week happens on a lawn. Automobilia Monterey is the memorabilia show, two days indoors at the Embassy Suites in Seaside, and it is where the week quietly begins before the big events take over.
Vendors fill the hall with the stuff around the cars: vintage posters and signage, scale models, dealership neon, race-worn parts, period photography, and shelves of literature you did not know you needed until you saw it. Collectors come to hunt, and casual visitors come to browse a museum you are allowed to buy from.
It runs early in the week, which makes it a good soft open, an air-conditioned afternoon before the outdoor marathon starts. If you are chasing a specific badge, brochure or model, this is the room to find it, and the dealers know their inventory cold.
Seaside parking is among the easiest of the week, and the indoor setting means weather is never a factor. There is an admission charge, modest compared with the lawns, and a two-day pass for anyone who wants to work the room slowly.
