Salinas throws one of the biggest rodeos in the country, and it is the week the whole valley circles. The California Rodeo Salinas fills the Salinas Sports Complex every July with professional cowboys, bucking stock, and a crowd that treats it as the year’s main event.
The rodeo runs several days of sanctioned competition, bull riding, bronc riding, roping, barrel racing, the full slate, drawing top riders on the professional circuit. Around the arena, the celebration spills into carnival, food, and the traditions that have built up over more than a century, since this one goes back to 1911. It is Salinas at its loudest and proudest.
The grandstands fill for the evening performances, so tickets for the marquee nights are worth grabbing ahead. Parking is straightforward at the complex, and the heat inland is real, so plan for sun during the daytime slack and cooler air once the lights come on.
Big Week around the rodeo spills into downtown Salinas too, with related events and a parade, so the celebration runs bigger than what happens inside the arena.
Performance times and the week’s schedule post to our events calendar, and our Sports coverage follows the big regional events. For tickets and the full lineup, the California Rodeo Salinas site has the details.
