Friday, August 14 belongs to the German marques. Legends of the Autobahn gathers BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Porsche on a Carmel Valley fairway, a concours and club show rolled into one, and it has quietly become one of the better-value tickets of the week.
The field runs from restored classics to modern performance cars, with the clubs bringing out the rare stuff, E9 coupes, gullwings, air-cooled 911s, the occasional homologation special that spent its life in a climate-controlled garage. Judging happens, awards happen, but the day is really about walking the grass and talking to owners who know their cars down to the part number.
It shares the calendar with The Quail, so the ambitious build a Friday that hits both. Legends is the more relaxed of the two, less champagne and more shop talk, and the entry price reflects that.
Carmel Valley heat is a factor by afternoon, so hats and water are not optional, and the drive in shares the same two-lane crunch as every valley event. Go early, park once, stay put.
For the full Friday and the rest of the ten days, see the Car Week hub, and check the events calendar for the Carmel Valley gatherings.
