Sometimes you just want a screen, a beer, and a room full of people pulling the same direction. The Peninsula has the spots, and knowing where to go depends on which game you are chasing.
Downtown Monterey carries the most sports bars, the reliable kind with enough screens to cover a full Saturday slate and the sound turned up on the game that matters. Seaside and Sand City have picked up a few taproom-style rooms where the beer list is the draw and the game is on in the background. For the big fights and marquee matchups, it pays to call ahead, since the good rooms fill and some take reservations.
Local teams give you a reason to leave the bar entirely. Monterey Bay FC and the Sirens both play to real crowds, and CSUMB athletics offer a night out for the price of a couple of coffees. Watching in person beats any screen.
Big soccer mornings pull their own crowd, and a few rooms open early for the European fixtures if you know which ones to ask.
Match schedules and watch parties post to our events calendar, and our Sports coverage follows the local sides. For a wider list of venues, See Monterey can point you.
